In Mwanza, Tanzania, Health & Hope Foundation provides free supplemental education to 100 orphaned and vulnerable children, from pre-primary through secondary school.

Students attend local government schools and come to Tumaini Tutor School six days a week for additional instruction, English-language learning, educational resources, nutritious meals, and a safe, supportive place to learn.

At Tumaini, students also develop essential digital skills using Wi-Fi tablets—technology rarely available to them at home or in government classrooms. Through hands-on learning, science lessons, and research across school subjects, they gain knowledge, confidence, and opportunities for their futures.

“Tumaini” means “hope” in Swahili—a fitting name for a school dedicated to brighter futures.

English Language Learning

English proficiency opens doors to higher education, employment, and economic opportunity in Tanzania.

At Tumaini, we are expanding English instruction to help students build confidence in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English. Lessons are designed to meet students where they are in their learning.

Digital Literacy & Science Education

Most Tumaini students don't have computers at home or in government classrooms. Our Wi-Fi-enabled tablets provide an opportunity to develop essential digital skills.

Students learn how to care for and operate a device, navigate educational programs, and use technology to research geography, history, science, and other subjects.

Through our Generation Genius science subscription, students explore practical science lessons and experiments covering topics from climate change to human anatomy.

These experiences build curiosity, independent learning skills, and confidence with technology—preparing students for opportunities beyond the classroom.

Solar Lights help Education Shine

For many Tumaini students, learning becomes difficult after sunset. More than 80% live in homes without electricity, where studying by candlelight or kerosene lamp can be difficult and dangerous.

Solar-powered study lights give students a safer way to read, complete homework, and continue learning after dark. A simple light can make a lasting difference in a child's education.
